    How the Seal Is Engineered: What to Look For

    1. Multi-track design. Single-track sliders have one seal line; multi-track systems (3 or 4 tracks) allow the fixed and sliding sashes to sit on separate planes, reducing the effective seal gap and improving water drainage paths.
    2. Brush seal + interlock gasket combination.     Why are sliding windows harder to seal than casement windows?

    Because sliding windows close by sliding, not by compressing. A casement window presses a gasket into the frame with mechanical force; a sliding window relies on brush seals and interlock gaskets that work by proximity rather than compression. The engineering challenge is making those proximity seals tight enough to stop air and water without making the window hard to slide. Modern multi-track and pressure-equalized designs have largely solved this, but only in the Class 3+ configurations.

    Can I use Class 2 sliding windows on a coastal site?

    Not recommended. Coastal sites expose windows to salt spray, wind-driven rain, and sustained high wind loads.
